Giving USA Report

presented by Melissa Brown

Can data about why people give help you raise more money for your nonprofit organization?  Yes!  Please join us for an interactive workshop as nationally-ranked fundraising trainer Melissa Brown reveals the results of the 2018 Giving USA:  Annual Report on Philanthropy.  Melissa will not only show us what to look for in the trends but also dig into the "drivers" of giving so we can better harness them.  Participants will come away with a better understanding of what motivates donors and give their organizations an edge when planning for fundraising success.

About the Presenter:

Melissa Brown first earned money as a technical writer at age 12. A short essay on year-round school netted her $25 and a letter of commendation from Ronald Reagan, then governor of California, where she lived.  More recently, she wrote and edited Giving USA (2001 through 2010). Melissa formed her consultancy after 10 years as a researcher studying nonprofits which followed 10 years as a professional fundraiser. Melissa teaches successful proposal writing and a course about the annual fund for The Fund Raising School. Her volunteer roles include the Research Council of the Association of Fundraising Professionals and the newsletter team for Indiana Native Plants and Wildflower Society.  She holds a B.A. from Reed College and a Master's degree from the University of Pennsylvania. Her spouse has studied philanthropy in Europe from the Greco-Roman era through 19th-century England. Yes, dinner at their house can be interesting.
